A clean mouth means a clear brain!

Studies have shown a link between Dementia and oral health

A recent study by the University of California has discovered a connection between poor dental hygiene and Dementia by following the progress of over 5,500 elderly people over a period of 18 years. The study found that those who brushed less than once a day were up to 65% more likely to develop the brain disease than the subjects who brushed at least twice daily.

Another study found that gum disease-related bacteria were more prominent in patients with Alzheimer’s disease, a common type of Dementia, than those who don’t have the disease.

The link continues…

At New England Dental Group in Armidale, NSW, we have always known how important a healthy mouth is. With these studies in mind, we know that it is more important than ever to keep up good oral hygiene, as poor oral hygiene can lead to the aforementioned brain diseases as well as other problems in the body such as heart disease, stroke or diabetes!

Good oral hygiene starts at home…

This is why we urge you to brush at least twice a day, while holding the brush at a 45 degree angle to achieve the optimal tooth and gum clean. Flossing is also extremely important and should be done at least once a day, using a new part of the floss for each tooth. It is also imperative to see a dentist once every six months to ensure optimal oral health.

We look after you…

At New England Dental Group, we are here for you. We know that you would rather keep your natural tooth if possible, and that is why we have developed our business around treatments that allow us to do everything we can to save a tooth if it is cracked, broken or has nerve damage. Sometimes a tooth just cannot be saved, and if this happens we refer you to our Oral Surgeon.
